Detroit Redwings Game Against the Florida Panthers
For the first time in a long time I was able to watch a full Redwings hockey game, I wasn't able to before because I was either sleeping for my midnight shift, at work, or at hockey. I was impressed with the Redwings effort and the style of play that they showed even though they lost. There defense wasn't impressive, they were bailed out a lot by Petr Mrazek which is probably my favorite between him and Jimmy Howard. The Redwings did have some amazing scoring opportunities but unfortunately weren't able to capitalize. There looking good, but they need more work on there defense.
Detroit Lions Playoff Contenders?
The Detroit Lions have made a dramatic turn around from being 1-7. They fired basically everyone in the coaching staff, and ever since they did that they have not lost a game and they are sitting at 4-7 and looking extremely good. The win streak all started with the Green Bay Packers, they came into Lambeau under new management and wasn't even expected to come close to beating them and they did it. The Lions are looking good, and I do believe they can win the rest of season but a lot of things have to happen for the Lions to make the playoffs.
First Semester of College Winding Down
Coming out of thanksgiving break it's hard to imagine for me to think that not only that fact that I started college but that my first semester is coming to an end and I already got to be thinking about more into my college career. College is kind of what I expected it to be, I have learned the do's and don't s while being in college. Some don't s I have learned along the way is not to be holding homework back and doing all in one day before the due date. It causes headaches and stress. Another thing is to study for test and exams. I got away with it in high school because the tests were easy but that doesn't fly in college.
What I'm Thankful For
Sitting at the dinner table with my family for Thanksgiving dinner I realized how lucky I am to have such a caring and a great family that I have around me. Not everyone can say that and that's unfortunate for the ones who can't enjoy the feeling of being with their family, and having everyone around you care and comfort you. I come from a family with great cooking and that's another thing that is so great about Thanksgiving with my family, they are great to be around with and the food on my plate is delicious and so enjoyable to eat.
Thanksgiving Break
Thanksgiving break consisted of sleeping, work, and more sleeping. I was finally able to catch up on sleep, and everything was going great until the last couple days of my break. I pushed all my homework back until the last couple days, and I became sick during my last days of break which is making it harder to get motivation to do all my homework. Some positives of my break was I got lots of sleep, ate a lot of food, got to spend time with family, and watched the Detroit Lions kick ass and watched the Packers loose. Some negatives, I got sick, had to work midnight shifts at work while being sick, threw up at hockey, and all this homework.

Last Time I was Afraid
It was a year ago and I was downstate in Detroit to watch a Detroit Lions game against the Tampa Bucceneers, and then the Detroit Redwings when they played the New York Rangers. Between the two games that I went to it turned out great, both teams won. But it was the ride home that gave me a little scare. We were on our way to Birch Run and not even 5 minutes out of Detroit our navigation system directed us off the free way. We listened to it even though I thought we shouldn't because I could tell the direction that we were going was to a sketchy neighbor hood. Torn down houses were every where, fenced in areas, and it didn't seem like there were people even here. The navigation system took us down farther and for some reason my parents still listened to it. The farther we kept going the scarier it got, people on the side of the streets just staring us down and the houses were even more a banded then the ones then the ones that we saw off the free way. It got even better when the navigation system said that we have reached our destination and we were looking at a dead end and more people just staring. At that moment we were lost and afraid and we didn't dare to walk outside and ask for direction. Eventually our navigator got us out and brought us to the real Birch Run.

Friday Night
I'm sure a lot of you guys spent your Friday Night at the Berry Events Center watching the Northern Michigan Vs. Michigan Tech Hockey game. I was watching the game but I was at work and I became extremely jealous when I found out that the old timer from the Detroit Redwings Micky Redmond was at the game. So I started out my Friday finally getting sleep. I got a good 12 hours of sleep and slept in till 1:00PM I then did a little bit of homework and then went to work at 3:30 PM. Needless to say that I didn't get much homework done and these blogs were the only assignments that I have gotten done.
Hanson Brothers Come to Marquette Nov 7
If you have seen the movie Slapshot you probably know who the Hanson Brothers are and you can have a chance to meet them on Nov 7th at Lakeview Arena. The reason why they are coming to Marquette is because they started there career right here in Marquette for the Iron Rangers when they were younger. Well just recently this year the Marquette Iron Rangers formed together again and they have joined the Great Lakes Region Division. For there season opener the Hanson Brothers are coming back and you can buy a ticket to go and meet them and get autographs!
Detroit Lions turn around?
As predicted I believed the Detroit Lions were going to be 0-5 there first 5 games. It's not because I thought they were going to suck, it's because they were given a harder schedule. They lost there first 5 games and they won last week against the Chicago Bears which made them 1-5. And as I speak they are currently beating the Minnesota Vikings by the score of 14-3. Is this a turn around for the Lions? I honestly don't know, they still got to face the packers and that's going to be a tough win. If the Lions exploit the Packers awful secondary defense I do believe the Lions will win. It's hard to make a prediction on the rest of the season because the Lions are unpredictable....VERY UNPREDICTABLE. The players have hope though because one of the defensive players Darius Slay did say that the Lions will be 11-5. So it's good that they have hope, do I have hope? It's hard to believe.

Michigan Vs. Michigan Sate Football
As any Michigan State Football fan, I really enjoyed the football game against the Michigan Wolverines. In my opinion Michigan State didn't play to good and they probably didn't deserve that win. But the way they won made my night, after the NMU Hockey Loss and the Redwings losing that completed my night. Michigan State is still undefeated but I don't know how much longer they can keep that going unless they pick up there play.

NMU Vs. LSSU Hockey
Tonight I went to Sault. St. Marie with a couple of my friends to watch NMU play against LSSU in hockey. The game didn't go to well, NMU lost 4-0 and it wasn't really an exciting game to watch. On the way up we stopped in Brimley to go to the Bay Mills Resort and Casino. It was a really nice casino, big, and a lot of nice machines. I didn't win anything but it was a fun experience being there and I'm glad I went to see the town of Brimley. Tomorrow morning we will be going back to Marquette and I'll spend my rest of my weekend at work.

Pen Pal
Dear Khymba Johnson,
Hello, I just finished my rough draft for my argument essay, and for the argument essay we're supposed to pick a a character from either a book, movie, TV show, or a video game. That character that we choose can't be a main character and we have to write the story from there perspective. For my argument essay I chose Scrappy-Doo from the TV show Scooby-Doo. Basically in my essay I talked about the differences between Scrappy and Scooby and why the show would be different in Scrappy's perspective in the show.
Sincerely,
Trey Haglund

My Weekend 10/11
My weekend like most of my weekends was pretty boring. I didn't do too much other than doing homework and going to work. So Thursday night I got home from class and played NHL 16 on the Xbox One, afterword I went to work at 4pm and got off at 12am. Went home went to bed got up at noon and did homework till 330pm when I had to leave for work and started again at 4pm and got off at 12am went to bed and got up at noon and did more homework until 330pm and did that all over again. Now I'm doing this blog and more homework until 330pm then I will go back to my hell hole at work. :)
Redwings Hockey
The Detroit Redwings kicked off there first season opener in Detroit against the Toronto Maple Leafs and former coach Mike Babcock. Redwings looked great, and beat the Maple Leafs with the score of 4-0. Goals scored by Justin Abdelkader (3) and Dylan Larkin (1) with his first NHL career goal at the age of 19. They traveled to Carolina the following night to face the Carolina Hurricanes, and they didn't have a good game even though they came out on top with the score of 4-3. Goals scored by Teemu Pulkinnen (2) Henrik Zetterberg (1) Justin Abdelkader (1). Even though they came out on top they dodged a bullet, being out shot 47 to 19. The hero of the game was the man between the pipes Petr Mrazek stopping all but 3 of the 47 shots faced.

Hockey Season
There is so much hockey to watch and play this season and it's going to be a blast. If you love hockey you are in the right area to watch, we have the Marquette Royals, and Marquette Iron Rangers at Lakeview Arena, and of course the Northern Michigan Wildcats at the Berry Events Center. Also the Detroit Redwings on TV, and I do believe they are going to have an excellent year, sounds like they fixed their defensive problems and their offense is looking better then last year. Now the goalie problem still may be a problem I have no idea, both Petr Mrazek and Jimmy Howard are inconstant goaltenders and that part scares me a bit. Lastly for me I will be playing hockey for the Marquette 18u team and I am not planning on getting sick of all that hockey because there's no such thing as too much hockey.
My 2 Dogs
Since I am running out of things to talk about and I am not doing much of things of exciting because I'm always working, I'm going to talk about my dogs. I have two dogs, one is a smaller Maltese Yorki, and a Cocker Spaniel. The Maltese Yorki (Tuffy) is an older dog, he's been in the family since I was 1 years old, he's a cute little dog but extremely annoying. He lays on the back of the couch and stairs out the window. If he see's a car go by he barks, if he see's a dog walk by he barks, if he see's a person walk by he barks, anything he sees that moves he barks and his bark is extremely annoying. The Cocker Spaniel (Zoey) is a much better dog than Tuffy, she's a bird hunting dog, chases after any animal that enters our yard, mainly chipmunks, squirrels, birds, or a rabbit.

Snow White
If we read this story from a different perspective, we would learn a lot more about the story. From Snow's perspective it would be less of talking just about her it would be more as in what we did, because she was with Rose a lot in the story, and I think if it was from Snow's perspective the reader would also know a lot more about Rose as well.

Thursday Night
This last Thursday night after I got off of work at midnight at the casino, 3 other of my coworkers and I decided to take a road trip to Escanaba to their casino because we aren't aloud to gamble at ours. We were tired but the road trip was worth it. We arrived at around 1:30 AM and the place was pretty much empty just like last time, not much people there gambling. I had amazing luck unlike the others, I kept winning a hundred and losing that hundred, it was back and forth. I was down to my last $40 and I decided to play the $5 machine which was 2 bets so it was $10 a spin and I had 4 spins with my $40. I spun it once, nothing, spun it the 2nd time and hit 3 red 7's. I won $500.00, cashed that out and we went home not even looking at any other machines. We got home at 6:00 AM and I went to bed, got up at 2:00 PM and got ready for work again at 4:00 PM It was a great trip!
NMU Budget Cuts
After hearing about the Northern Michigan University budget cuts on the news earlier this week, I have a couple thoughts that I would like to share. The University announced they are down 400+ students from last year and they are going to have to make some budget cuts. One of the ideas that I heard from them were they are going to cut some of the facility as in teachers, which I think is the worst thing they could do. If you get rid of the teachers that means less classes, which means even less students so I have no idea what there even thinking there. The University is losing money and if they didn't give free college to the employees kids, that wouldn't be a problem. Think about how much money they would be making even if they made their employees kids pay maybe even half of what others have to pay. Also other than cutting teachers cut the facility in the administrative offices because that's where there losing money, not the teachers because without them there would be even less enrollment then there already is.

Music in Society
Music in Society isn't at all what I expected and I'm struggling big time, seeing it on my schedule I thought it was learning about the different types of cultures and music in society but that's not at all what it is. It's an actual music class and I have no idea why I am forced to take this class. Last time I have taken a music class was back in like 5th grade, ever since then I had no classes related to music until now. In this class you have to know the notes, pitches, rhythm, how many people are singing, and other things I have never heard of before and this class is hitting me fast. Trying to study is hard too because last time I studied for my first exam in this class half of the stuff on the exam wasn't even on the exam review and I have no idea what to study this time and this upcoming exam is going to be ugly.
Struggles of Being a Lions Fan
If you are not a Detroit Lions football fan you have no idea what it is like to be a fan of them, but if you are a fan of the Lions you'll know exactly what I am about to say. The Detroit Lions have always sucked, they are so bad they had a legend on their team Barry Sanders retire early because they sucked so bad. I have always told myself don't be a bandwagon fan, (a fan who switches teams when a team isn't doing good) but it's extremely hard not to. Yeah I remember the 0-16 season, it's going to be in my mind forever, and I can maybe see it happening again this year, not even joking. After the 0-16 season the Lions seemed to be strong in some parts but extremely week in another. Last year the defense was strong and the offense wasn't very good. The year before that the offense was strong and the defense wasn't good. Now it seems like both sides are just awful. I feel bad for Matthew Stafford, he has no time to throw the ball and he gets brutally hit seems about every snap but he hangs in there. He has heart, the rest of the team needs it if not I can see another 0-16 season if not a definite losing season.

EA SPORTS NHL 16
I didn't think I would be blogging about video games, but I have no idea what to blog about and the brand new NHL 16 from EA Sports is out and at my house and that's all that is on my mind at the moment and I just want to get home and play the game. NHL 16 came out Tuesday September 15th and I went to go get it in between classes that same day, and getting back to class knowing that the game was waiting for me to play, it made my Music in Society class that much longer. So when I got home, I installed it and finally played it after 15 minutes. The game is awesome, the best NHL the EA Sports has came out with since NHL 13 which was my favorite of all the NHL games until NHL 16 came out. Buying NHL 16 was iffy for me at first, just because I wasn't too impressed with NHL 14 or NHL 15. But as soon as I started playing the game I could tell that it was an awesome game. Graphics are good, the game play is much smoother and way more realistic than any other hockey game I have played. Finally now there is more game modes to play since NHL 15 didn't have many game modes and took out my favorite game mode which was EA Sports Hockey League where you can play with friends on a team and as your own player. I can see myself getting too addicted to the game and I have to try my best to not let this game get in the way with school work and other activities.

Football Sunday
Yes, I'm writing about football again, I just can't stop. The first game I'm excited for is the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packer game. If you don't know me too well, I will root for any team that is playing against the Packers. All morning I have been hearing on how stacked the Green Bay Packers are, and I just can't wait and see the very few receivers that Aaron Rodgers can throw to. The only receiver he has right now is Randall Cobb, and I actually hope he does good because he is on my fantasy team. Don't get me wrong Aaron Rodgers will probably prove me wrong because he always does, he'll find anyway to get the ball into the receivers hands, he makes the receivers look good. I shouldn't be depending on the Bears to beat the Packers because the Bears are awful but It's always good to hope. Now the other game I'm excited for is of course the Detroit Lions and San Diego Chargers game, and thank god I have too work because the Lions game ain't going to be televised but when your job has the NFL Season Ticket from Direct TV, you're set. I'm pumped and I can't wait.

Never too Late for a Road Trip
This last Thursday night was a great night, and I kind of regretted it in the morning. My night started out with work like most days, I started at 4:00 PM, walked into the casino with a big whiff of cigarette smoke and went and clocked in. Since that night was pay day my co workers thought it was a great idea after work to go to the Escanaba Casino which is about an 1 hour and a half away from here. I agreed on going and the four of us left our casino at midnight and took off to Escanaba. On the ride there we hit a deer already dead laying in the middle of the road in Trenary, it wasn't the best sight either, we pulled over, the deer was everywhere on the road and the car was full of blood and I can't even explain the smell, it was awful. The car was okay though, drove fine and nothing broke underneath the car thankfully (we drove right over it). We kept going and arrived at the casino at around 1:30 AM, got out of the car and went into the casino. When we walked it was like Christmas morning because pretty much every machine was open and there wasn't very many people there. I started out pretty lucky on the machines, won fifty bucks, but then I lost it because I don't know when to quit. Then I was lured into playing the five dollar machines, that didn't go to well and I lost about half of my paycheck on those machines. We finally left around 5:30 AM and headed back home, and I just remembered that I had a tutor session at 8:00 AM that same morning. I didn't get much sleep and I had to work that same day.

Last Arguement
I don't get into too many arguments, because I'm a pretty chill guy, but the last argument I was in got a little heated. I was working my swing shift at the casino in Marquette as a security guard. While I was at the front door asking for ID's for anyone that looked under twenty one this younger guy and his family said he didn't have his ID on him. And as a rule of the casino I told him he wasn't aloud in, and they didn't take that answer to well. He repeatedly told me that he was eighteen and that I should let him in the casino, I told him no and again that he had to have his ID on him. Then his mother jumped in on the argument and asked if she could show me her ID to prove that he was eighteen which made absolutely no sense to me so I said no again anyways. The mother was mad with me and said that the whole situation was stupid and that she didn't like me. So since the kid was pretty cool with it, I stood outside with him while his parents went in to gamble.

Football Season!
It's that great time of the year again, football is starting and I couldn't be more excited. As a Detroit Lions fan each year I get more and more excited, they improve each year and this year I do believe they will make it to the playoffs again as they did last year. I'm not saying Super Bowl, because I'm not get to ahead of myself, but the defense sure did prove themselves last year with there fantastic year, the offense not so much. This year is different though with the Lions offensive, I believe they are going to have a strong year, because last year when Calvin Johnson was hurt and Matthew Stafford still made it work. Now if Johnson stays healthy Stafford will have more receivers to throw to especially Golden Tate. The Lions running game is also going to be strong, Joique Bell amazes me each year and this is his year to really show himself, and also they have Theo Riddick and the rookie Ameer Abdullah and they both did great in the pre season and Riddick also had a great year last year even though he didn't play to much. Now the defense this year I am not so sure what to expect, yeah they lost Ndamukong Suh, and a couple others on the line, but I didn't hear to much on who else they brought in. I am very excited to see how Ezekiel Ansah is going to be this year though, favorite defensive player and I believe he is going to have a great season. Hopefully the rest of the defensive does to, and I am wishing on a Super Bowl this year!
Paulding Light
Last Friday I went out on a road trip out west to the town of Paulding Michigan to go see the Paulding Light. If you don't know what the Paulding Light is, it's a ghost light located in a valley way in Paulding, which used to lie train tracks back in the days. The story behind this light is told to be a light lantern from a brakeman who was killed by trying to stop an oncoming train from colliding into stopped railway cars on the track. This was the second time seeing the light, the first time seeing the light, it was very bright and almost seemed like it was in my face and actually freaked me out. This time it was very dim and hard to see. The mystery behind the Paulding Light is still unexplained, and I feel that hard to believe. I can easily see it being vehicle headlight because the old railway does in fact intersect with a highway about 4 miles down. First off you can see red in the light, which I can see being rear headlights, then you see white which of course I can see being the front headlights. I may be wrong, but that's the only explanation I can come up with, if it's not headlights than I have no idea what it could be. If you ever want to go to the Paulding Lights I'd defiantly go if I were you, not a far drive plus there's a casino just down the road which is another plus.

Music in Society Silent Walk
Tuesday September 1st in my Music in Society class we went for a walk around parts of the campus other than sitting in class. But it wasn't any walk, we weren't aloud to talk to friends, we had to be completely silent. It was really weird and boring, and it was really hard not to laugh. We would stand in one spot and just stay there for like 5 minutes straight and not say a word, people passing by would just stair at us not knowing what to think, it was just a really weird class activity. During the walk we were supposed to admire the sounds around us, I heard the clunking of a bird hitting one of the class windows, wind, cars driving by, and a sprinkler. Other than that I didn't hear much, but there was a kid in the group smoking a vaporizer so that was a pretty delightful thing to smell for the entire walk around campus. I don't know what to think about that class, it's very weird and I never know what to expect when I walk into class, It's going to be a long semester in my Music in Society class.

What to do in Marquette
Marquette is a beautiful place, and the more things you know about the area the better you're experience will be while staying in here. If you love being outdoors than you're in the right place, Marquette has so many different things you can do, and I'm still learning new places to enjoy and I have been living here since I was born. Hiking trails are all over here so it's hard for me to tell you all of them, but some of the best are Mount Marquette located along the Carp River, Sugar Loaf Mountain on County Road 550, and the highest mountain in Marquette County, Hogsback Mountain which is also on County Road 550 across from Sugar Loaf Mountain. Also if you're into fishing there is so many places you can choose to fish, being a fisherman myself I'm not going to tell all you all my secret spots, but of course there is Lake Superior, a ton of inland lakes, rivers, streams, there not hard to find and of course the rivers and lakes are all good when you need to cool off in the summer. Golfing is also pretty big here in Marquette, Northern has their own course off of M28, and Grey Walls off of County Road 553 are the main ones that I know of, also Disc Golf another form golf is another popular thing in Marquette. There are two courses, Powder Mill off of County Road 550 along the Dead River which is right off campus. The other one is the Silver Creek Course which is off of Silver Creek Road in Harvey, just south east of Marquette. In the Winter I'd just suggest staying inside it's mostly very cold, storming, or a little bit of both. But there is also things to do, skiing or snowboarding on Marquette Mountain, you can cross country ski, snowshoeing, ice fishing on Lake Superior, and my favorite thing to do outdoor hockey and there are many places you can go for that. I hope you all enjoy your time in Marquette!

The Weekend
First week of college is over and the weekend is here, it's going to be an awesome weekend. Time for homework, typing blogs, reading my Music in Society book, and having great 8 hour shifts at work. So whenever I have free time my weekend usually consists of hanging out with friends, going to Northern sporting events, usually just football and hockey games because there the only sports I can watch without falling asleep. Other sporting events I go to that are not related to Northern sports are Marquette Royals and now the new Marquette Iron Rangers hockey games and they are more exciting to watch because there aloud to fight unlike going to Northern hockey games. I will also on occasion stop in and watch Marquette Redmen High School Football games. Other than watching sports, I'm either out on the biking or hiking trails, four wheeling, swimming, fishing, playing disc golf, and when snow falls there's really nothing else I'd rather do than spending my time out on the outdoor rinks, or watching hockey like I mentioned earlier. If not that I'm playing Xbox, either NHL, Madden, or GTA are my main go to games. Hope you enjoyed reading my blog, now I'm off to work.

About Myself
My name is Trey Haglund, I was born and raised in Marquette Michigan. I have started my first year of college at Northern Michigan University this Fall of 2015. I chose Northern Michigan for my choice of college because it is close to home, and the area is a beautiful place and leaving wasn't in my interest of doing. The major that I am going for at the moment is Wildlife Management, but I'm interested in seeing on what other major's spark my interest. I chose Wildlife Management as my major because I would like to study wildlife and the populations and help maintain their population. I spend most of my time in the outdoors, I like to go fishing, camping, hiking, mountain biking, four wheeling, and disc golfing. I am also a pretty big into sports, I've played hockey, baseball, and soccer since I was little. My favorite sports teams are all out of Detroit, I like the Redwings, Lions, and Tigers. I am excited to see what my first year of college brings for me, the new things I will learn and the new people I will get to meet throughout my first semester and hopefully the rest of my college career here at NMU.
